It was Hot, Stinky, Loud and we had a total blast!!!

It was that time of the year again for the VW drag races at Rocky Mountain Raceway. It is called the Salt Lake Shootout and me and Isaac have gone for the last 2 years. Here is the flyer for it.
It was some good racing this year. There were more VW's than last year and that was fun to watch. It's always cool to see an air cooled VW pull it's wheels like this.

Here are some of the slower VW's that were there. They are still a blast to watch. The slower ones crack me up because you can here them all revved up and shifting hard but they seem to be almost crawling as they go down the track.
There were all kinds of VW's that showed up. Bugs, Ghia's, Dune Buggy's, Bus's and even a land rover with a  custom frame sporting an air cooled engine that was right hand drive.
One thing you need to expect with air cooled VW's is oil on the track. It is especially true with the ones that have real wild engines. If you modify them they can and will break. This was the seen throughout the night every time the VW's ran. Lots of mopping and track dry was used.
Isaac was bored waiting for the track to be cleaned so I told him to smile for the camera. This was the best I could get out of him. Not sure if he's ever going to make it as a model.
I liked the logo on this bug.
Isaac called this white one Ed's cousin. It had some really impressive wheelies throughout the night.
This bug was featured in a Hot VW's magazine article. It ran at Bonneville Salt Flats. It is a nice bug and it won 1st place in it's class. The bug I built in high school had the salt flat discs like this one. I miss that bug.
Me and Isaac had a blast at the drag's on Friday night. It was pretty hot until the sun went down and then it felt pretty good. This is a good photo to end this post with. I look forward to going to next years all ready! Who knows, maybe I will even race Ed.

Nice! I've never seen a wheelie-popping bug before!
