The bug boys invade the zoo!

Steven, Isaac and myself went to the zoo for one last outing before school started. We had fun looking at the animals, going to the bird show and riding the train. Here are some of the pics.

We liked the orangutan's the best and the baby elephant was fun to watch. The weather was awesome and the crowds weren't all that bad either.

Camping at last!

Well, we finally made it out as a family camping this year. We went to Smith and Morehouse reservoir and had a good time. We chanced our luck by taking the trailer and hoping that the trans in the truck would hold up. We made it there and back safely and had fun fishing, cooking, starting fires without matches and enjoying the outdoors. Here are some pics.

Here is the start of Stevens fire and a cool set of rock out croppings that look like a house made of stone.

And last of all Steven and Isaac crossing a river having a good time.

Well, that's about all I was able to do this summer but Dixie and the boys had lots of other little adventures together. If we are lucky we will be able to sneak in another camping trip before winter hits.

The Wasatch Classic

Well, its been awhile since I posted. Our computer crashed and its been awhile since I was able to get everything working. Back in July me and Isaac drove the bug to Provo to go to the Wasatch classic. Its a vw show. We had a fun time. We didn't enter because we had to leave early to go to a family reunion. We took lots of pictures. Here are just a few of our favorites.

Here is what I want to get next as far as VW's go

Its called a double cab and they are pretty rare and expensive. This is what Dixie likes Its a Karmann Ghia. She says that is what she would get if she had to.

Isaac's favorites are these. He wants to build a baja bug for his first car.

Steven likes them all, but he really wants one made of legos. He really thinks this one is going to be his
You never know, it may still be around. (unless a double cab comes up for sale in my price range) but don't tell him that.

Too Hot!

Well, as the temperatures climb, the bug is really not liking the heat. Bugs are air cooled and so they are different from a regular car that is liquid cooled. If the temperature stays below 90 degrees the bugs happy and runs good. Above 90 and it starts to run rough and stalls if idling to long. We have decided to try to keep the engine cooler by letting more air into the engine compartment. Isaac and me installed some deck lid standoffs. they raise the hood away from the body and lets cooler air in. Here are some random pictures that Isaac took as we are installing them.

Here is the finished product. Hopefully it works and will lower the temps.

Feeling Squished!

Sometimes being in the bug is a little claustrophobic. I was squished in between these 2 trucks, the one on the rear view mirror was a lot closer until I pulled out the camera for a picture. One advantage from being so small is fitting in parking spots. It looks like I really need to clean the windshield.

The bimonthly ride and a trip to the DMV

Well, it was time for Dixie's bimonthly ride in the bug. I was out and about again trying to win the picture contest on the Internet. The picture had to have an abandoned building and your VW in it. Dixie figured there is no better place to find an abandoned building then on Main street in Magna, So we loaded up the family in the bug and cruised over to Magna. We got some funny looks by the people across the street as I was taking pictures of the bug next to an old building. They probably thought neither was worthy of a picture. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Here they are (the buildings and the bug) in all their glory

For those who don't know the last 3 pictures are of an old building that was painted up for an episode of the TV show Touched by an Angel. At the time it was the best looking building on Main street. We won the contest and decided to have everyone look for an interesting or unique road sign with their VW next to it.

The bug is sporting some new (old) license plates. I went to the DMV today and had the plates transferred to the original 1969 plates I found at the Logan car show. They look good and seem to fit the bug better then the new ones did. Just a word to the wise. DO NOT GO TO THE DMV AT THE FIRST OF THE MONTH THE DAY AFTER A HOLIDAY WEEKEND. It was a zoo. Actually I would advise to avoid the DMV if at all possible. It seems like I am always there for some reason. I think I should get a frequent visitor pass.
